The review of how The National Archives presents its rich and broad information remit was always planned for review 3 years on from the merger of OPSI with The National Archives in 2006. This brought together the full spectrum of information management responsibilities to sit within one lead organisation. We have moved to associate all OPSI’s work “as part of the National Archives” and this is the next stage. The National Archives is now positioned as a leader in managing government information and its CEO is the Head of Profession for Knowledge and Information Management in government. The National Archives’ priority is to raise government and information management capability and ensure that government is able meet the changing and complex challenges in the management and exploitation of information/PSI. This includes the PSI agenda. The OPSI responsibilities operate as a part of The National Archives and will continue to promote and encourage the access and re-use to PSI, regardless of the brand. It is the effort and work with colleagues within the organisation and across the wider public sector that has provided the success to date. This will not affect how The National Archives drives the PSI and information management agendas and the development of an improved brand will not bring about any legal or regulatory or framework changes.
