Tim Berners-Lee: The year open data went worldwide
California: 8 March 2010
TED Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) has published the talks from the TED 2010 that took place from the 9th to 13th February 2010 in Long Beach and Palm Springs. One of the talks published is that given by Tim Berners-Lee: The year open data went worldwide.
The announcement states:
“At TED2009, Tim Berners-Lee called for "raw data now" -- for governments, scientists and institutions to make their data openly available on the web. At TED University in 2010, he shows a few of the interesting results when the data gets linked up.”
The video compares the US data.gov with the UK data.gov.uk and shows a number of the applications that have been created within a few days of the data appearing on the respective sites either side of the Atlantic. The video also shows the Open Street Map activity across the world demonstrating crowd sourcing from across the world.
